Machine Operator – Bindery & Finishing

Location: Elgin, IL
Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts (6am–6pm or 6pm–6am) – 2-2-3 schedule

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Machine Operator to set up, operate, and maintain a variety of bindery and finishing equipment. The ideal candidate ensures high-quality production while promoting a safe and efficient work environment.

Essential Functions

• Set up, adjust, and operate bindery and finishing machines, including folders, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines, case making & decorating equipment, and inkjet/mailing devices.
• Operate automatic bindery machines and adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) to produce finished products such as books, catalogs, manuals, and magazines.
• Coordinate multiple workstations on a single machine to ensure smooth and efficient production.
• Lead production crews, monitor quality, and maintain output standards.
• Read and verify job ticket information; ensure all components are present before starting production.
• Achieve required print quality and registration standards; perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments.
• Perform cleaning and maintenance following standard operating procedures.
• Maintain accurate production counts and inspect equipment for safety compliance.

Competencies & Skills

• Experience with MBO folders and vacuum table converting is a plus.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct press crews.
• Effective communication skills; able to take coaching and work respectfully with team members.
• Knowledge of manufacturing/warehouse safety requirements and procedures.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow standardized instructions, and maintain high safety standards.
